Membrane Filtration Plant

Washington, Utah

Client NeedsBack to Top

Washington City controlled 2000 acre feet of water rights in Quail Creek Reservoir. Previously their main use of this water was to irrigate a City owned golf course using approximately 600 acre feet of rights. In order to put the remainder of the water to beneficial use, and provide for the additional need for culinary water, the City contracted Sunrise Engineering to design a 3 million gallon per day membrane filtration plant. This plant allowed them to use Quail Creek to supply culinary water to the community.

FundingBack to Top

Sunrise assisted the City in procurement of a funding package of low interest loans from Rural Development and the Drinking Water Board.

Selection of Membrane Treatment ManufacturerBack to Top

Sunrise collected proposals from membrane filtration treatment equipment manufacturers. Based on selection criteria, and a detailed evaluation of experience and qualifications, capital and O&M costs, and an equipment evaluation, Pall Corporation was awarded the contract for the equipment. They performed a pilot plant process in conjunction with Sunrise's design of the treatment plant.

Facility Design and ConstructionBack to Top

During the design process Sunrise coordinated with the treatment equipment manufacturer to ensure that all selected equipment would be appropriately housed and function within the building and system.

The construction included earthwork required of the treatment plant facility, a 5,500 square foot masonry block building; a 200,000 gallon raw water tank that would supply water to the plant which would then store it in a 500,000 gallon finished water tank- both of reinforced concrete. Associated piping, chlorinating facilities, as well as a parking lot and access road were constructed to service the facility. The site was obtained through a BLM R&PP grant, Sunrise Engineering, Inc performed environmental assessments and applications to the conclusion of getting the land transferred over to the City.

To feed the raw water tank Sunrise tied into an existing secondary water line that was providing irrigation water to the City's Coral Canyon Golf Course.

Coordination with Treatment Equipment ManufacturerBack to Top

The treatment plant equipment, including feed pumps, strainers, treatment filters, valves, high service pumps, monitoring equipment, instrumentation and control equipment were supplied by Pall Corporation. Sunrise worked closely with the company throughout the design and construction of the facility to ensure the correct installation of all treatment facility equipment.
