Sunrise completed a hydroelectric facility in an existing historical structure that was abandoned during the 1960’s near Afton, Wyoming. We were responsible for the engineering, design and construction administration. We coordinated the facility start-up, development of the operations and maintenance program.
The project included tasks for both the upper and lower units. This included dam rehabilitation, penstock replacement for production of electricity and powerhouse refurbishment with all new equipment. We used a 900 kW generator and a 700-kW generator for the two units and coordinated with manufacturers in accepting and reviewing submittals. One hydro unit is a vertical Francis and the other is an inclined Francis. The upper unit included 7,000 lineal feet of 42 inch and the lower unit 1,800 lineal feet of 48 inch steel penstock. Our design afforded a minimal facility foot print and utilized an existing historical building for the power equipment.
