Willard/Perry Wastewater System

Clients' Need

The Cities of Willard and Perry both found themselves in need of upgrades on their wastewater systems. Willard's unsewered, septic tank system, needed to be updated to a community wastewater system. The City of Perry needed an additional treatment facility, as well as upgrades to their collection system. Sunrise coordinated with both Cities to assist with the design of these upgrades. We worked with the cities and the state to come to agreement on the direction of the project as well as approvals to proceed.

Collection System & Treatment Plant

Sunrise worked diligently with both city councils to come to an agreement for a wastewater treatment facility that would satisfy the needs of both communities. Along with the treatment plant, located in Willard, Sunrise also designed and is overseeing construction on a collection truckline, ranging from 18" to 36" in diameter and over 3 1/2 miles long, that will connect Perry's wastewater system to the plant. In some locations this line required excavation over 24 feet deep and required dewatering efforts.

Sunrise also performed a wastewater design for Willard to upgrade from the existing septic systems. The Willard wastewater collection upgrade consisted of hundreds of service connections as well as the design of a complete collection system that will tie into the new treatment plant. There were over 20 miles of pipe ranging from 8" to 24" in diameter. Some of the challenges to the installation of the system that were overcome in the design and construction included high water tables on the west side of the city and large boulders on the east.

This project is currently in progress. The design was completed in 2008, and bidding/contractor selection has occurred. Construction is currently underway. The project consists of a 2.0 million gallon per day STM Aerotor treatment plant with the afore mentioned sewer trunkline.

Funding Assistance

Sunrise was successful in assisting the Cities in obtaining approximately $25,000,000 in grants and low interest loans to fund this project.
